I was harvest-moon-ing on my PSP
in my nice air-con room on my comfy
bed yesterday when my mother in law
came in, talking about the news.
"They are not going to reduce the
weighting/weightage of MT in PSLE."
In my mind: "Since when they wanted
to lower that? Good that they didn't anyway."
"Ben was saying not to be bothered about it,
since English is THE language of more
importance and usage. That's what we should forcus on."
Before I realise it, I was "Orh"-ing away.
I guess it's a habit I've been having while
talking to her, a way to show that I'm
not that interested.
The next second, I was thinking to myself,
Ben actually said something like that?
What would actually make him think that way?
To me, I'm not really bothered about the
culture part. But by learning and being fluent
in more than one language would be a big bonus.
Not just to children, but adults alike.
Being fluent in a language means you can
communicate with people who know the same language.
So being fluent in many languages means
you will be able to communicate to a larger
group of people without any language barrier.
Thinking again, the "English" they are
implementing into Daven's head is not the English.
I honestly prefer them to talk to him
in perfect Mandarian than in Singlish.
Can you imagine if they were to just speak
to Daven in their not-too-good English
and not even introducing Mandarian,
what would be of him?
